Tigers Put Exclamation Point on OEC Series Sweep Over Pirates
No. 9-ranked Riverside City College made it a clean sweep over No. 15-ranked Orange Coast College with a 10-0 shutout win Friday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 25-9 on the year and 11-4 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Pirates drop to 18-15 overall, 6-9 in conference.
RCC finished with 12 hits, while only allowing OCC to put two hits on the board. Luis Sosa (3-for-5) and Aiden Erlandsen (3-for-5) each had three hits in the game, while Bubba Heidler (2-for-4) and Riki Kubota (2-for-4) also had multiple hits.
Erlandsen put the exclamation point on the game with a first-pitch grand slam in the top of the eighth, giving the Tigers their 10-0 lead.
Jorge Rodriguez grabbed the win on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just one hit in six innings of action, while striking out six batters. Chris Romo struck out five batters in two innings of work, while Brady Pavlovsky came in for one inning and had two strikeouts.
The Tigers look to carry momentum into next week's matchup with Cypress College, which is right on RCC's tail in the OEC standings. The two teams square off on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Riverside to get the series underway.
