Tigers Grab First OEC Series Sweep of the Year
No. 12-ranked Riverside City College grabbed its first Orange Empire Conference series sweep of the year with a 2-1 victory over No. 15-ranked Golden West College on Saturday.
The Tigers improve to 16-5 overall and start conference action with a 3-0 mark, while the Rustlers drop to 12-8 on the year, 0-3 in the OEC.
Bubba Heidler led RCC with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate and scored one of the two runs. Luke Medure (1-for-3) scored the other run and picked up an RBI when Heidler scored.
Golden West struck first with a run in the bottom of the second, but RCC took the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Heidler led the inning off with a double to left before stealing third with one out. Medure tucked a base hit down the right-field line to score Heidler before coming home on a sacrifice bunt from Grant Gray, 2-1.
Jorge Rodriguez picked up the win on the mound with 10 strikeouts, while Jack Wheaton grabbed a save.
The Tigers begin another three-game series with a ranked foe next week, heading to No. 13-ranked Irvine Valley College on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. contest.
