Riverside Runs Past East LA
No. 6-ranked Riverside City College made its home debut Thursday evening, grabbing a 10-2 victory over East Los Angeles College.
The Tigers improve to 4-0 on the year, while the Huskies drop to 0-4 overall.
RCC finished with 10 hits in the game, led by Danny Inzunza (2-for-3) and Luis Sosa (2-for-2). Josh Chairez (1-for-2), Luke Medure (1-for-2), Logan Clear (1-for-2), Noah Haros (1-for-3), Johnny Alley (1-for-3), and Josh Hartman (1-for-3) also had hits for the Tigers.
Riverside took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second off an RBI single from Inzunza, before adding another run in the third.
The Tigers opened the game up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs off three hits and one error. With two runners on, Medure drilled a base hit up the middle to send one runner home before Chairez came home on a wild pitch. Medure then upped the Tigers' lead to 5-0 after tagging up on a sacrifice fly.
Riverside kept the pressure on and tacked on another three runs in the sixth as Inzunza grabbed another RBI base hit. He scored off a grounder before Clear pinch hit and drove in the third run of the inning.
RCC looked to put the game out of reach in the seventh and added two more runs to hold a solid 10-0 upper hand.
East LA didn't go out without a fight and managed to score two runs in the top of the ninth, but RCC shut it down before the Huskies could really get a rally going.
Jake Valenzuela picked up the win in the circle for the Tigers, striking out six batters in seven innings and allowing just four hits. Zach Gibbs added two strikeouts in one inning of action.
The Tigers return right around to host the Huskies again on Friday, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
