Riverside Seals OEC Series Win Against Saddleback
No. 6-ranked Riverside City College closed out its Orange Empire Conference series with Saddleback College at home on Saturday, grabbing a 6-1 victory to win the series.
The Tigers improve to 22-6 on the year and 8-1 in conference – holding onto their top spot in the standings with Santa Ana College. The Bobcats drop to 14-14 overall, 4-5 in the OEC.
Riverside finished with 10 hits in the game, with Josh Chairez (2-for-4) and Luis Sosa (2-for-4) each having multiple hits.
After scoreless action in the first three-and-a-half innings, RCC broke through in the bottom of the fourth to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Chairez and Sosa led off with back-to-back singles before Aiden Erlandsen (1-for-4) drove in the first run with another single. Bubba Heidler (1-for-4) then doubled to left center to tack on another two runs and then came home on a Noah Haros (1-for-3) base hit.
The Tigers kept pushing and scored two more runs in the seventh to increase their lead to 6-0. Sosa knocked an RBI base hit and then stole home to help secure the 6-0 victory.
Jorge Rodriguez picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, finishing with four strikeouts in seven innings of action.
RCC has a big matchup next week, taking on No. 2-ranked Santa Ana with sole possession of first place in the OEC standings on the line. The two juggernauts first face off on Tuesday in Riverside at 2 p.m.
