Riverside Racks Up Record Runs in Lopsided Win
No. 18-ranked Riverside City College scored a record 21 runs in a single inning en route to a 29-1 victory over Barstow College.
The Tigers improve to 11-5 overall, while the Vikings drop to 4-15 on the year.
RCC finished with 26 hits, with almost everyone in the lineup grabbing a hit. Logan Ortega (4-for-5, two runs and one RBI) and Danny Inzunza (4-for-4, one run and 3 RBIs) led the Tigers with four hits each, while Robert De La Torre went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two others batted in.
Riverside blew the game out of the water in its first chance at the plate, scoring 20 runs before Barstow could even get an out on the board. In fact, the Tigers' 21st run came with the first out of the inning as Grant Gray hit a sacrifice fly to score Ortega, who tagged up at third.
Three Tigers teamed up on the mound with Charlie Ruggles grabbing the win. Ruggles and Max Biddle each tossed three strikeouts, while Steven Gonzales struck out another two batters.
RCC turns right around to host West LA College on Thursday, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
