Riverside Answers Back with Dominating Win
After dropping a walk-off yesterday, No. 11-ranked Riverside City College left no room for doubters in an explosive 11-1 victory over Ventura College on Saturday.
The Tigers improve to 9-3 overall, while the Pirates drop to 5-7 on the year.
Grant Gray (3-for-5) and Isaac Castanon (3-for-4) led RCC with three hits, while Luis Sosa (2-for-5), Johnny Alley (2-for-4, 4 RBIs), and Josh Chairez (2-for-3) also had multiple hits.
RCC scored early and often, scoring one run in each of the first three innings. The Tigers added another in the bottom of the fifth before busting the game open in the sixth and seventh innings.
In the bottom of the sixth with two runners on and one out, Alley drilled a home run to score three runs before Grant tagged up on a Luke Medure sacrifice fly to put the Tigers up 8-0.
Riverside added another three runs in the seventh after Sosa knocked an RBI single, Logan Clear tagged up on a line drive to right and Sosa came home on a fielder's choice, 11-0.
The Pirates managed to cut through the shutout with a run in the eighth, but RCC held on for the lopsided victory.
Jorge Rodriguez picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, striking out six batters and allowing just one hit in seven innings of action.
Weather permitting, the Tigers are back home on Thursday, Feb. 19, to host Southwestern College at 2 p.m.
