Tigers Charge Back to Grab Ranked Battle Victory
No. 8-ranked Riverside City College faced another ranked foe in Orange Empire Conference action and came out victorious on Tuesday. The Tigers defeated No. 11-ranked Cypress College 9-6 to get the series going on a high note.
RCC improves to 26-9 overall, 12-4 in conference action, while the Chargers drop to 22-13 on the year and 9-7 in the OEC.
Luis Sosa (3-for-5) and Aiden Erlandsen (3-for-4) led the Tigers at the plate, while Grant Gray (2-for-4) and Darin Osterloh (2-for-4) also had multiple hits in the game.
Cypress took the lead first and increased it to 5-3 after the top of the sixth. RCC came alive in the bottom half of the frame, however, plating six runs off five hits and one error to take the lead and held on.
With one out and two runners on base, Osterloh knocked a base hit up the middle to score one run before a fielding error scored two more runs. Erlandsen then drilled his fourth home run of the season to put the Tigers in front 9-5.
The Chargers managed to score once more in the eighth, but RCC held on for the 9-6 victory.
Zach Gibbs picked up the win on the mound with 3.2 innings of action, while he and Jake Valenzuela each had five strikeouts in the game.
Riverside and Cypress continue the series on Thursday at the Chargers' diamond, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
