Tigers Grab Come-From-Behind Win
No. 10-ranked Riverside City College dug deep to come from behind and grab a 16-9 victory over No. 22-ranked Irvine Valley College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 17-5 overall and 4-0 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Lasers drop to 13-8 on the year and 0-4 in conference.
Johnny Alley (3-for-4) and Grant Gray (3-for-6) led the Tigers at the plate, while Josh Chairez went 2-for-4 to help RCC out-hit IVC 14-to-11.
After finding itself trailing 9-4 after five innings, Riverside started to turn the game around in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs off two hits before taking the lead in the top of the seventh as IVC committed three errors.
The Tigers kept pushing and tacked on three runs in the eighth off a two-RBI single from Logan Ortega (1-for-4) and sacrifice fly from Luke Medure, before capping the scoring with another three runs in the ninth.
With three runners on and no outs, Bubba Heidler scored two runners before Gray knocked an RBI single to seal the 16-9 victory.
Max Mora picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers.
The Tigers and Lasers face each other for game two of the series on Thursday, this time on Riverside's home turf. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
