Chargers Even OEC Series with Tigers
No. 8-ranked Riverside City College couldn't complete its comeback attempt in a 5-3 loss to No. 11-ranked Cypress College on Thursday.
The Tigers slip to 26-10 overall and 12-5 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Chargers even up the series 1-1 and improve to 23-13 on the year, 10-7 in conference.
Grant Gray (2-for-3) and Gavin Egan (2-for-4) each had multiple hits for Riverside.
Cypress took a 4-0 lead before RCC could get on the board. In the top of the seventh with bases loaded and no outs, Aiden Erlandsen (1-for-4) came home as Cypress grabbed a ground out. Riverside then loaded the bases once more and Johnny Alley walked in another run to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Chargers answered back with another run in the bottom half of the frame, but the Tigers kept battling and struck again in the eighth as Bubba Heidler (1-for-5) drilled a home run on his second pitch to put the visitors back within two, 5-3, but it was all Cypress would allow.
RCC and Cypress close out the series on Saturday at noon, with the game moving back to the Chargers' field due to unforeseen circumstances at Evans Park.
