Pirates Plunder Victory from Tigers
Riverside City College battled from behind to hold a late lead, but couldn't hold on as Ventura College grabbed an 8-7, walk-off victory on Friday.
The Tigers drop to 8-3 on the year, while the Pirates improve to 5-6 overall.
Johnny Alley (3-for-3) and Logan Clear (3-for-5) led the Tigers at the plate, while Grant Gray went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Luke Medure finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Luis Sosa (1-for-5), Noah Haros (1-for-4), and Bubba Heidler (1-for-4) also had hits for the visitors.
After finding itself trailing 4-0 after two complete innings, Riverside pulled within one in the top of the third off a two-RBI single from Medure and a Pirate error.
Ventura took back a run in the fourth, but the Tigers answered back in the top of the fifth as Medure tagged up on a Dean Loyd sacrifice fly.
In the top of the eighth, Gray gave RCC its first lead of the day with a two-RBI double and came home on the same play after two Ventura errors.
The Pirates battled back, however, and scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal the victory away from the Tigers.
Riverside looks to return the favor as the two teams face off again on Saturday, this time on the Tigers' turf with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
