Erlandsen Goes Long Twice in Tiger Victory
No. 6-ranked Riverside City College brought the heat with its 11th-straight win, downing Santa Barbara City College 10-3 on Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 20-5 on the year, while the Vaqueros slip to 11-10 overall.
Aiden Erlandsen had a game for RCC, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Bubba Heidler went 2-for-5, while six other Tigers had hits in the game.
RCC found itself trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth but evened the game off two SBCC errors.
The Tigers then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back. With two runners on, Erlandsen blasted an inside-the-park home run to put the home team up 5-2 before Luis Sosa (1-for-3) drove in a run after taking a pitch to the body.
Riverside kept momentum building and tacked on three runs in the eighth to seal the 10-3 victory. Grant Gray led off with a double to left center before Erlandsen knocked his second home run of the year. Logan Ortega gave RCC its 10th run after tagging up on a Danny Inzunza sacrifice fly.
Andrew Sanchez picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers, who saw eight pitchers combine for 11 strikeouts and keep Santa Barbara at bay.
The Tigers remain at home as they host No. 26-ranked Saddleback College on Tuesday to start another Orange Empire Conference series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
