RCC Explodes Late in Lopsided Victory
No. 6-ranked Riverside City College exploded late to grab a 16-4 victory over East Los Angeles College Saturday evening.
The Tigers improve to 6-0 overall after sweeping the three-game series, while the Huskies move to 0-6 on the year.
Multiple Tigers finished the night with two or more hits, led by Luis Sosa (3-for-6, four runs). Darin Osterloh (2-for-2, three runs), Luke Medure (2-for-4, two runs), Bubba Heidler (2-for-5, four RBIs), and Josh Hartman (2-for-3) all had two hits for RCC. Josh Chairez (1-for-5), Johnny Alley (1-for-2), Logan Ortega (1-for-1), Danny Inzunza (1-for-3), and Gavin Egan (1-for-1) also had hits.
Ryan Jenkins picked up the win on the mound, tossing eight strikeouts over 4.2 innings and allowing just one hit.
After the game was tied through the first five innings, RCC took back the lead with a run in the top of the sixth before scoring four runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to all but seal the victory.
Sosa led the seventh off with a triple to center field and came home on a Huskie error. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out before two wild pitches and another East LA error put the visitors up 9-4.
In the eighth, Sosa once again led off and singled to get the inning started. RCC loaded the bases with no outs, and Heidler blasted a base hit to left, sending two runners in.
The Huskies changed pitchers, but the Tigers weren't done yet. Two fielder's choices added another two runs before an Egan base hit tacked on another run to give the Tigers a 14-4 lead.
RCC capped the scoring with two runs in the ninth and took East LA down in order in the bottom half of the inning to seal the 16-4 win.
Riverside returns home to host No. 13-ranked Grossmont College on Thursday at 1 p.m.
