Tigers Snap Jaguars' Undefeated Streak
No. 15-ranked Riverside City College opened with a bang and finished with a 69-42 victory over No. 4-ranked Southwestern College, handing the Jaguars their first loss of the season.
The Tigers improve to 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the National-Southern League, while the Jaguars slip to 6-1 on the year, 3-1 in conference.
Riverside finished with 697 total offensive yards, including 317 passing yards and 380 rushing yards.
Bryan Wilson went 26-for-30 with three touchdown passes and ran in three touchdowns, finishing with 396 total offensive yards. Marquis Monroe had 11 carries and scored two touchdowns, while Kayvion Sibley also scored two touchdowns – one rushing (80 yards) and one receiving. Timothy Tynan was a perfect 9-for-9 on extra point attempts and 2-for-2 on field goal attempts.
RCC got things going on its first drive of the game after Donavon Ferguson returned the kickoff for 30 yards to give the Tigers a solid start. Five plays later, Wilson ran in the first touchdown of the day.
The Tigers got their stops on defense, allowing the RCC offense to score on its first three drives of the game. Sibley came up big with a 66-yard catch from Wilson for the second touchdown of the game, while Monroe found a seam and broke through for a 68-yard touchdown to put RCC up 21-0 early.
Riverside went into halftime with a 42-21 lead and looked to power through. Southwestern tried to claw its way back into the game, but a Nickson touchdown and Tynan field goal in the fourth sealed the 69-42 victory.
The Tigers look to carry their three-game winning streak into next week, hosting Mt. San Jacinto College at noon.
