RCC Gets Back on Track
Eighth-ranked Riverside City College got back on track Saturday with a close 57-54 victory over No. 23-ranked College of the Canyons.
The Tigers improve to 2-1 on the year, while the Cougars drop to 0-3 overall.
RCC boasted 576 total offensive yards, including 212 rushing yards – over a 150-yard improvement from last week.
Jared Doolittle went 20-for-34 and threw four touchdown passes, including three to Ross Nickson III and another to Dominic Cox, and ran in a touchdown himself. Kayvion Sibley, Devon Nofoa-Masoe and Jonathan Marshall also ran in touchdowns for the Tigers.
Defensively, Riverside held Canyons to a 35-percent third-down efficiency (6-of-17). Micah Valenzuela led the Tigers with seven total tackles, including four solo stuffs, while Iese Magalei had three solo tackles and three assists, along with a pass breakup. Damion Ortiz posted five solo tackles, including a sack that put the Cougars back five yards.
Timothy Tynan kicked a field goal for 25 yards and was 3-for-4 on extra point attempts, while Anthony Orozco knocked in all three PATs he attempted.
The Tigers return home to start conference action on Saturday, hosting 10th-ranked Saddleback College for a noon kickoff.
