RCC Grabs Third at SoCal Championship
It came down to the final race in order for Riverside City College to earn a spot on the podium, and the Tigers produced, taking third at the 3C2A SoCal Championship on Saturday.
RCC needed to take second or first in the 4x400 meter race and they did just that, clocking in at three minutes, 51.87 seconds. It gave the Tigers 91 team points, just edging out San Diego Mesa College in fourth place with 88.5 points. Mt. San Antonio College won the meet with 179.5 points.
The Tigers' 4x100 team grabbed third overall in 47.35 seconds, just .23 seconds behind second-place SD Mesa.
Tiana Burgess won the 100-meter hurdles by almost a full second. She clocked in at 13.96 seconds, while Kierstin Marpaung took fifth in 14.79 seconds. Burgess also took second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.91 meters.
Kaycia Carridice took second in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.95 seconds. She also took fourth in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 24.59 seconds.
Nyah Brown finished runner-up in the shot put, hitting 12.94 meters on her fourth try. Kenzy Eden also finished in the top 10, taking ninth overall with a mark of 11.50 meters.
Victoria Redd grabbed third in the discus, hitting 41.39 meters on her fourth try in the finals. Skylar Svidergol followed in seventh with a mark of 38.73 meters, while Brown took ninth at 35.65 meters.
Svidergol grabbed fifth in the hammer throw after clearing 42.12 meters on her second toss of the day. Eden followed in seventh with a mark of 42.05 meters, while Alexandra Franco posted a throw of 38.60 meters to take 10th.
Sara Brittin took fifth in the javelin with a toss of 33.06 meters. Madyson Esqueda finished eighth overall with a mark of 31.05 meters.
Beau Hocking finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters, while Marpaung took 10th at 1.55 meters.
Caitlyn Brody took sixth in the 3K steeplechase, clocking in at 12:36.20. Isabella Chavez followed with a time of 14:21.97 to take 14th overall.
Kyndall Hayes grabbed sixth in the 400-meter with a time of 57.77 seconds, while Isabella Ibibosemoses followed in eighth with a time of 59.77 seconds.
Stephanie Brittin posted the ninth best jump in the long jump, clearing 5.23 meters.
RCC heads to the 3C2A State Championship next week on Friday and Saturday at Mt. SAC.
