Brown Sets Meet Record at Mangrum Invite
Riverside City College saw top 10 finishes and a meet record broken at the Mangrum Invitational Friday, going up against several four-year schools.
Nyah Brown highlighted the meet by not just winning the shot put but setting a new meet record with a mark of 13.17 meters. It broke the previous record set in 2023 by .16 meters. Victoria Redd (11.51 meters) and Gina Misiaita (11.02 meters) also finished in the top 10, while Nyeta Urquides was just on the outside in 11th place (10.18 meters).
Redd led three Tigers in the top 10 of the discus throw. Redd took third overall with a mark of 39.95 meters, while Skylar Svidergol finished seventh (36.76 meters) and Brown took ninth (34.98 meters).
Madyson Esqueda took sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 33.19 meters, while Sara Brittin followed in 27.70 meters for 10th and Mabel Gonzalez took 11th with a throw of 25.72 meters.
Beau Hocking took seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters.
Tiana Burgess finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.11 meters, ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.77 seconds.
Kaycia Carridice finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 12.33 seconds, while Skye Williams wasn't far behind in fourth (12.51 seconds). Stephanie Brittin also finished in the top 10, taking ninth overall with a time of 12.88 seconds.
Kyndall Hayes finished in the top 10, taking ninth in the 400-meter dash (58.34 seconds).
Stephanie Brittin also took eighth in the triple jump, crossing 10.68 meters.
The Tigers' 4x100 relay team got the event going and took second with a time of 47.50 seconds.
Riverside sends its multis to the SoCal Heptathlon next week, while the rest of the team will compete at the Moorpark College Open and the UCSD Triton Invitational.
