Tigers Sit in First After OEC Prelims
Riverside City College saw three Orange Empire Conference individual champions crowned after the OEC Prelims on Friday.
The Tigers currently sit in first place with 108 team points, while Orange Coast College follows in second (49) and Saddleback College sits in third (36).
Caitlyn Brody won the 3K steeplechase in 12 minutes, 43.70 seconds to get the meet off to a running start. Isabella Chavez followed in second (13:28.75) and Savanna Martin took third (16:37.01).
Nyah Brown won the shot put with a mark of 12.32 meters, leading a group of Tigers on the podium. Nyeta Urquides followed in second place (11.64 meters), while Kenzy Eden took third (11.57 meters). Skylar Svidergol finished fourth at 10.63 meters, Gina Misiaita took fifth at 10.62 meters, and Victoria Redd finished in sixth with a mark of 10.51 meters.
Svidergol won the hammer throw by 3.5 meters, posting a mark of 41.86 meters. Eden followed in second with a toss of 38.20 meters, while Misiaita (fourth) and Alexandra Franco (fifth) rounded out the scorers for RCC with respective throws of 36.61 and 35.87 meters.
Stephanie Brittin took second in the long jump after clearing 5.41 meters. Tiana Burgess grabbed fourth with a mark of 5.25 meters, while Kaycia Carridice picked up fifth after clearing 4.89 meters.
Jessica Munoz capped the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 10K, clocking in at 45:25.77. Evelyn Reyes followed in eighth place with a time of 49:02.46.
Kyndall Hayes, Janel Lugo-Bourbonnias, Isabella Ibinosemoses and Deja Moore each secured their spots in the 400-meter championship race next week. Hayes posted the second-best time of the day, finishing in 57.94 seconds. Lugo-Bourbonnias clocked in at 58.57 seconds and Moore finished in 1:02.75.
It will be an all-RCC championship race in the 100-meter dash after the Tigers posted the eight fastest times in the prelims. Skye Williams won her heat in 12.15 seconds to automatically qualify, along with Carridice, who won her heat in 12.21 seconds. Sara Brittin (12.41 seconds), Jasmine Watts (12.59 seconds), Burgess (12.72 seconds), Stephanie Brittin (12.75 seconds), Beau Hocking (12.89 seconds), and Teyani Dixon (13.16 seconds) will also be in the mix.
Carridice (24.92 seconds), Williams (25.58 seconds), Watts (26.04 seconds), and Ibibosemoses (26.40 seconds) all earned their spot in the 200-meter championship race.
RCC hosts the OEC Championship next Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
