Tigers Split Time at Two Different Meets
Riverside City College competed at two different meets on Friday and Saturday: the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego and the Moorpark Open at Moorpark College.
Moorpark Invite
Kyle Amaral won the discus event with a toss of 43.75 meters. Justin Camacho took fourth (42.09 meters), while Chris Johnson (38.34 meters, 7th ) and Lorenzo Smith (37.78 meters, 9th) also finished in the top 10.
Jacob Sayed grabbed second in the pole vault after clearing 3.95 meters. Connor Knox also cleared 3.95 meters to take fourth, while Joseph Munoz (3.65 meters) and Joaquin Gonzalez (3.50 meters) finished in fifth and seventh, respectively.
Martin Sandoval was the highest collegiate finisher in the 800-meter race, clocking in at one minute, 56.83 seconds to take second overall. Anthony Silva followed in fourth place with a personal-best time of 1:58.69, while Dyeem Tolbert (2:03.57) took ninth and Nathan Luce (2:03.70) took 10th.
Michael Ferro took second in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.44 seconds, while Ryan Watson grabbed fourth (15.57 seconds) and Kai-lynn Keo took fifth (15.58 seconds).
Ahkil McClellan grabbed second in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 54.55 seconds. Ferro followed in fourth place (55.83 seconds) and Peter Mesa grabbed seventh in 56.89 seconds.
Keo grabbed second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.85 meters and posted the fourth-best long jump, hitting 6.76 meters, while Dominic McDermott took eighth (6.57 meters).
Tolbert picked up a third-place finish in the 3K steeplechase, posting a time of 10:32.99. Burhop also finished in the top 10 with a time of 11:32.73 (ninth).
Semaj Johnson finished fourth overall in the 400-meter race, posting a personal-best time of 50.16 seconds. He also took 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.40 seconds.
Lorenzo Smith took fifth in the hammer, posting a personal-best mark of 50.14 meters.
Ivan Dorantes grabbed fifth in the 5K with a time of 16:26.40, while Dillon Burhop posted a personal-best time of 16:41.83 to take ninth.
Brody Henderson took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.80 meters, while Amaral grabbed sixth (12.73 meters).
Triton Invitational
Luis Mier grabbed fifth in the 10K with a time of 32:23.97, while Diego Tierrafria took seventh in 34:11.49 and Alexander Mota finished in ninth place in 34:40.65.
Orlando Collins posted a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter run, clocking in at 47.36 seconds. Jared Schulte also finished in the top 10, taking ninth overall in 47.83 seconds.
Collins was just outside another top-10 finish in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 21.46 seconds to take 11th overall.
McClellan bettered his time from the Moorpark Open and finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.85 seconds, while Aden Johnson was just outside the top 10 with a time of 55.07 seconds to take 11th.
Matthew Lollino grabbed ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.77 seconds.
La'Darrian Watkins took ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.95 meters, while Kameron Hawkins posted a mark of 14.15 meters to take 11th in the triple jump.
Omar Sanchez grabbed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 14.65 meters, while Damion Ortiz followed in 15th place, just .01 meters behind his fellow Tiger.
The Tigers' 4x100 relay team posted a seventh-place finish with a time of 42.03 seconds.
RCC is at the Mt. SAC Invite on Saturday before shifting its focus to postseason as it hosts both the Orange Empire Conference Prelims (April 17) and OEC Finals (April 24).
