Tigers Open Season in Moorpark
Riverside City College got the 2026 season underway Friday and Saturday with the Moorpark College Season Opener.
James Henderson won the decathlon with 5840 points, taking first in the shot put (12.44 meters), long jump (6.66 meters), javelin (43.33 meters), high jump (1.74 meters), discus (37.92 meters), 400-meter (53.06 seconds), and the 100-meter (11.22 seconds).
Matthew Lollino won the 60-meters in 7.09 seconds, while Camden Connor (7.19 seconds) and Aaron Lujan (7.22 seconds) also finished in the top 10.
Orlando Collins won the 300-meter with a time of 33.87 seconds, followed by Jared Schulte in 34.51 seconds.
The Tigers dominated the discus, taking almost all 10 top spots. Omar Sanchez won the event with a mark of 47.38 meters, followed by Jace Collins with a mark of 45.60 meters. James Padilla rounded out the top three with a toss of 43.98 meters.
Sanchez also won the shot put with a throw of 15.20 meters, more than a meter above the rest of the competition.
Joseph Garcia won the hammer with a toss of 47.72 meters, while Sanchez took second with a mark of 47.34 meters.
Kai-lynn Keo won the long jump with a mark of 6.94 meters, while Kameron Hawkins took second in the triple jump at 14.38 meters.
Martin Sandoval took second in the 600-meter with a time of 1:23.82, while Anthony Silva (1:25.74), Nathan Luce (1:27.22) and Daniel Hoover (1:28.20) also finished in the top 10.
Sandoval also finished second in the 1500-meter, clocking in 4:11.07, followed by Silva (4:11.32) and Luce (4:16.76).
Joshua West led three Tigers in the top five of the 2000-meter steeplechase, taking second in 6:24.20. Angel Gomez finished fourth in 6:49.39, while Dyeem Tolbert took fifth in 6:49.48.
West also finished third in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:52.23, while Luis Mier finished seventh in 9:03.78.
Mateo De La Parra finished second in the javelin (41.80 meters), and Justin Camacho followed in third (41.54 meters).
Jacob Sayed grabbed second in the pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters.
RCC took second in the 4x400 relay (Collins, Sandoval, Lance Duraz, Keo), posting a time of 3:23.41.
The Tigers make their home debut next week with the RCC Early Bird on Friday at 1 p.m.
