Tigers Find Success Against Four-Year Competition

Riverside City College hosted its big invitational on Friday and took second overall with 113.50 team points, beating out several four-year institutions, including UC Riverside (third, 67 points).

Dyeem Tolbert led a group of Tigers in the 3K steeplechase, taking second overall in 10 minutes, 17.88 seconds. Ivan Dorantes followed in third (10:24.03), while Angel Gomez took fourth (10:45.02) and Dillon Burhop took fifth (11:08.21).

Jared Schulte finished second in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 48.76 seconds, while Orlando Collins wasn't far behind in fourth place (49.12 seconds).

Ahkil McClellan and Aden Johnson both finished in the top 10 of the 400-meter hurdles, with McClellan posting the fourth-fastest time (55.26 seconds) and Johnson following in sixth place (55.56 seconds).

Joshua West finished fourth in the 3K, posting a time of 8:33.35.

Alex Wesolowski grabbed fifth in the 1500-meter race, clocking in at 4:01.17 and just edging out a runner from Concordia University of Irvine. Anthony Silva followed in eighth place with a time of 4:02.40.

Ryan Watson took seventh overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.85 seconds, while James Henderson clocked in at 16.75 seconds to take ninth and Lukas Konradsson finished in 10th in 17.46 seconds.

Matthew Lollino took seventh in the 100-meter dash, sprinting in at 10.70 seconds. Camden Connor took 10th overall in 10.85 seconds.

Martin Sandoval posted a top-10 time in the 800-meter race, clocking in at 1:56.03.

Riverside's top 4x400 relay team won the event in 3:16.67, coming in a full second before the team from UC San Diego.

Out in the field, La'Darrian Watkins grabbed second in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.93 meters. Edward Moody tied for fourth (1.88 meters), while Henderson took seventh (1.73 meters) and Jason Lowe finished eighth (1.63 meters).

Omar Sanchez led a quartet of Tigers in the top 10 of the shot put, finishing with a mark of 14.70 meters to take fifth overall. Damion Ortiz followed in sixth at 14.54 meters, while Zolan Frank grabbed seventh (14.41 meters) and Jace Collins took 10th (13.96 meters).

Sanchez also led RCC in the discus, taking fourth with a toss of 46.79 meters. Collins took sixth (45.75 meters), while James Padilla (45.43 meters) and Joseph Garcia (43.96 meters) followed in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Garcia took eighth in the hammer (47.64 meters), while Frank followed in ninth place with a mark of 47.00 meters.

Mateo De La Parra took sixth in the javelin with a toss of 43.98 meters, while Jacob Tyree (41.30 meters) took seventh and Justin Camacho (40.10 meters) took eighth.

Kameron Hawkins took seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 13.77 meters, while Kai-Lynn Keo followed in eighth (13.47 meters) and Joaquin Leiva took ninth (12.61 meters).

Connor Knox led the group of RCC pole vaulters, finishing in eighth, while Joseph Munoz took ninth and Jacob Sayed finished 10th. They all hit 3.80 meters.

 

The Tigers head to the Ben Brown Invitational on Thursday and Friday, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
