Tigers Dominate Throws in Throwing Facility Debut
Riverside City College won its own Early Bird Invitational on Friday, beating out its competition by almost 100 points.
The Tigers dominated the throws events, christening their new throwing facility in the process. Omar Sanchez won the shot put with a toss of 15.25 meters, while Zolan Frank (14.42 meters) took second and Jace Collins took third (13.85 meters).
Collins turned around and won the discus, posting a mark of 45.80 meters, while Joseph Garcia took second (43.45 meters) and Sanchez grabbed third (42.37 meters).
Garcia took his turn in the top spot in the hammer throw, winning the event with a toss of 47.67 meters. Frank followed in second (46.20 meters), while Sanchez took third (44.93 meters).
James Henderson won the javelin with a mark of 50.56 meters to round out the throwing competition.
Joshua West won the two-mile event, posting a time of nine minutes, 32.22 seconds – almost 10 seconds faster than second place. Luis Mier finished in the top three as well, taking third in 9:49.19.
Daniel Hoover won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 58.32 seconds.
RCC won the distance medley, posting a combined time of 10:23.01.
Kameron Hawkins took second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.17 meters, while Orlando Collins finished runner-up in the 300-meter dash with a time of 33.98 seconds.
Matthew Lollino finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.85, while Daniel Rodriguez took third in the one-mile with a time of 4:39.04.
The Tigers' 4x400 relay team took second with a time of 3:15.96 and the 4x800 relay team posted a time of 8:03.74 to also take second.
Riverside heads to the Ron Kamaka Multi next week, hosted at Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday and Friday.
