RCC Posts Top 10 Performances at Mangrum Invite

Riverside City College saw top 10 finishes at the Mangrum Invitational Friday, going up against several four-year schools.

The Tigers' 4x400 relay team capped the event with the top time, finishing in three minutes, 11.44 seconds.

Kameron Hawkins won the triple jump with a mark of 14.11 meters, while Kai-lynn Keo grabbed seventh 13.29 meters and Joaquin Leiva followed in ninth with a mark of 13.26 meters. Keo also took 10th in the long jump with a mark of 6.34 meters.

Orlando Collins and Jared Schulte went second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Collins posted a time of 47.60 seconds, while Schulte came in at 48.10 seconds.

Damion Ortiz led RCC in the shot put, taking second overall with a toss of 14.96 meters. Jace Collins took third (14.82 meters), while Omar Sanchez followed in fourth (14.47 meters). Brody Henderson grabbed sixth with a mark of 14.15 meters, while Aydeen Nava (13.51 meters) and James Padilla (13.08 meters) took 10th and 11th, respectively.

Sanchez then led an ambush of Tigers in the discus, taking third overall with a throw of 47.80 meters. Joey Garcia took fifth (46.36 meters), while Padilla (45.75 meters), Justin Camacho (44.88 meters), and Kyle Amaral (43.65 meters) filled in spots six through eight. Collins rounded out RCC's presence in the discus with a 10th-place finish (43.27 meters).

Garcia followed with a third-place finish in the hammer (48.88 meters), while Zolan Frank took fourth with a mark of 48.08 meters. Lorenzo Smith took ninth with a toss of 43.50 meters, while Sanchez finished in 10th with a mark of 42.05 meters.

La'Darrian Watkins grabbed fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters.

Matthew Lollino took fourth in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 10.93 seconds.

Joshua West posted a time of 32:07.88 in the 10K to take fourth, while Luis Mier (32:54.81) and Diego Tierrafria (33:06.38) followed in eighth and ninth, respectively.

Ahkil McClellan led three Tigers in the top 10 of the 400-meter hurdles. McClellan took fourth in 55.49 seconds, while Michael Ferro, Jr. followed in 56.11 seconds to take fifth. Daniel Hoover rounded out the trio with a time of 57.84, which was good for 10th.

Martin Sandoval finished fifth in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:55.27, while Alex Wesolowski took seventh in 1:56.56.

Ferro took seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.88 seconds, while Keo followed in eighth place with a time of 16.12 seconds.

RCC's 4x100 relay team took third with a time of 41.85 seconds.

Riverside sends its multis to the SoCal Heptathlon next week, while the rest of the team will compete at the Moorpark College Open and the UCSD Triton Invitational.
