Tigers Go Down Swinging at Second Four-Year Matchup

Riverside City College battled its second four-year program of the year and suffered its first loss of the season with a 6-1 defeat at Pomona Pitzer.

The Tigers slip to 5-1 on the year, while the Sagehens – ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division III – move to 2-1 overall.

RCC battled in the doubles, with Ronith Sreeram and Giovanne Recchia grabbing a 6-3 win to put the Tigers off on a good start. Riverside needed one of the other two doubles matches to take the doubles point, but both teams came up just short.

Sreeram carried momentum over into his singles matchup, posting a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 spot to give the Tigers the lone point on the team tally.

Riverside didn't go down without a fight, however, as Vinicius Magrin took his match to three and other Tigers battled against a team Coach Otis Vu thinks could win the DIII title this year.

Weather permitting, the Tigers are back home on Tuesday to host Mt. San Jacinto College at 2 p.m.
