Riverside Takes Tiger Clash from Occidental

Riverside City College picked up its third straight win with a 5-2 victory over NCAA Division III Occidental College on Saturday.

The RCC Tigers improve to 3-0 on the year, while the Oxy Tigers – who rank in the top 50 in DIII – drop to 0-2.

Riverside swept the doubles competition to pick up the team point. Ronith Sreeram and Giovanne Recchia grabbed a 6-1 victory, while Charalampos Plataniotis and Vinicus Magrin beat their doubles opponent 6-3. Matias Almeida and Ethan Lee clinched the point with a 6-4 doubles win.

Sreeram battled back from behind after dropping the first set 0-6 and trailing 2-5 in the second. He won the second 7-5 and grabbed a 12-10 deciding set victory. Magrin, Almeida and Lucas Koitka also grabbed singles victories to give RCC the team win.

Riverside returns home to host Glendale College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
