Tigers See Smith/Franchere Advance to Quarterfinals of OEC Pairs Tournament
Riverside City College saw one pair advance to the quarterfinals of the Orange Empire Conference Pairs Championship Tournament on Wednesday, while two other will play in the consolation bracket.
Savannah Smith and Jayden Franchere earned their chance to keep competing for the championship after grabbing a 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) win in the first round, before battling to secure a 2-1 victory (21-12, 12-21, 17-15) to advance to the quarterfinals.
Marissa Ramirez and Eunice Castro opened with a three-set victory in the round of 32, coming back from down a set to win 15-21, 21-9, 15-10. The duo then fell in two sets (21-5, 21-9) to move to the consolation bracket.
Keira Isgar and Danna De Leon also grabbed a 2-1 victory in the opening round, also battling back from dropping the first set (11-21, 21-13, 15-7). The pair battled in another three-set match, but ultimately fell 2-1 (21-17, 21-23, 15-10) to drop to the consolation bracket.
The OEC Pairs Tournament closes on Friday at Irvine Valley College.
