Riverside Grabs Two Wins at Home
Riverside City College grabbed two wins at home Friday, beating Santa Ana College 5-0 before battling for a 3-2 victory over Orange Coast College – the first time the Tigers have beaten the Pirates in almost 10 years.
RCC improves to 5-16 overall and 4-6 in conference, while the Dons drop to 2-15 overall, 1-10 in the OEC, and the Pirates move to 11-8 on the year, 8-3 in conference.
The Tigers swept the Dons, with all but one match only taking two sets. Against OCC, RCC had to work a little, with four of the five matches going to three sets.
Danna De Leon and Keira Isgar dug deep to win their matchup 21-14, 18-21, 15-12, while Karina Watts and Jessica Lopez kept their unbeaten streak alive when paired together. The duo came from down the first set (21-16) to win the next two 21-11 and 15-12. Riley Rush and Eva Mohammed secured the team win for the Tigers with a 21-16, 12-21, 15-8 victory – marking the first time since 2017 RCC has defeated OCC.
Riverside is back home next week, hosting Fullerton College and Golden West College at the Rancho Valley Volleyball Club.
