Tigers Secure Bid to 3C2A SoCal Regional

Riverside City College battled the cold and wind on Monday at the Orange Empire Conference Championship and earned its spot to compete at the 3C2A SoCal Regional next week.

The Tigers posted the second-lowest score in the first round (306) and took third in the second round (305) to finish fourth overall in the OEC standings.

In the opening round, Ashton Spaulding took first overall with an even-par 71. Jack Wasserman and Blake Richert each followed with 77s, while Elijah Gonzales finished with an 81 to round out the scorers for the Tigers. Michael Viene's first round score was an 84, while Rigo Navarro carded an 85 after the first 18 holes.

Riverside went right into the second round and saw some improvements. Wasserman finished fourth overall with a one-over 72 – shaving five strokes off his first-round score. Spaulding took eighth with a 75, while Richert and Viene each carded 79s to help score for RCC. Navarro finished with an 83, and Gonzales finished with a 91.

Wasserman grabbed All-OEC honors after finishing with the 10th-lowest scoring average in the conference.

The Tigers head to Ventura next Monday for the regionals, hoping to secure a spot in the 3C2A State Championship, held May 10 and 11.
