Tigers Swim in All-American Honors
Riverside City College saw eight individuals and five relay teams earn All-American honors following the conclusion of the season.
Jeremiah Ireland, Eli Martinez Spencer, Vincent Fierro, Jared Ladinez, Davis DeAnda, Bryce Hitter, Wyatt Miner, and Zachary McDonald all grabbed individual honors, along with the Tigers' 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams.
Ireland picked up All-American honors in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.75 seconds and the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.75. He finished ninth overall at the 3C2A State Championship in the 100 free, while taking eighth in the 200 free.
Martinez-Spencer grabbed four individual All-American honors, in the 500 free (4:29.22), 50 backstroke (23.92 seconds), 100 back (50.41 seconds), and the 200 back (1:46.89). He won the 3C2A State Championship in the 500 free and was the runner-up in the 200 back, setting a new RCC record in the process.
Fierro picked up two individual All-American recognitions: the 500 free (4:44.18) and the 1650 free (16:41.90). He finished 12th overall in both events at the 3C2A State Championships.
Ladinez also grabbed doubled All-American honors in the 100 breaststroke (55.61 seconds) and the 200 breast (2:03.25). He won the State title in the 100-yard breast and finished fifth in the 200-yard race. Ladinez's best time of 2:03.25 in the 200-yard breast came at the Orange Empire Conference Championship, setting a new school record in the process.
Like Ladinez, DeAnda also grabbed All-American honors in the 100 breast (58.03 seconds) and 200 breast (2:07.30). He finished eighth in the 200 breast at the 3C2A State Championship.
Hitter earned three All-American honors: 200 breast (2:07.31), 200 individual medley (1:55.60), and the 400 IM (4:13.87). He qualified for all three events at the State Championship, taking 10th in the 200 breast, 14th in the 200 IM, and 16th in the 400 IM.
Miner grabbed four All-American honors, including 200 free (1:40.60), 200 IM (1:48.91), 100 butterfly (49.37 seconds), and 200 fly (1:50.49). He won the 200-yard butterfly State Championship, was runner-up in the 200 IM and took third in the 100 fly.
McDonald earned All-American honors on both diving boards. He took fourth at State on the 1-meter with a score of 223.1 and finished seventh on the 3-meter (171.25) to grab a spot on both podiums.
RCC also had multiple relay teams earn All-American honors: the 200 free relay team (1:24.16) of Aaron Ho, Miner, Isaac Sheu, and Ireland, which took eighth at the 3C2A Championship; the 400 free relay team of Ireland, Sheu, Martinez-Spencer, and Miner (3:04.57); the 800 free relay team (6:47.59) of Miner, Sheu, Martinez-Spencer, and Ireland, which took third at State; the 200 medley team (1:37.98) comprised of Martinez-Spencer, Ladinez, Miner, and Ireland, which also finished third at the 3C2A Championship; and the Tigers' 400 medley team (3:20.43), which won the State Championship and was swam by Martinez-Spencer, Ladinez, Miner, and Ireland.
