Wright, Wilson, Carlson, D. Martinez Named Student-Athlete Advisory Council Athletes of the Month
In order to be nominated for S.A.A.C. Athlete of the Month, a student-athlete must display an exemplary attitude both on and off their respected playing field. They must perform well in the classroom and in competition while consistently representing Riverside Athletics in a positive manner.
Dejah Wright
Wright, a leader both on and off the hardwood, has been experiencing a breakout season during her final season as a Tiger. After breaking the all-time single-game scoring record with 44 points in a win against Grossmont on November 10, Wright has not let up on the gas pedal by working towards a 19.2 points-per-game mark which includes a 38.5 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. In January play, Wright has flushed 20 or more points in six conference contests highlighted by a 27-point game in a win over Santa Ana. She has led the Tigers to a third-place showing in the OEC and was named to the First-Team All-Conference list.
Aeriel Carlson
Carlson has solidified herself as the most powerful threat in the state. While boasting a batting average of .407 and a slugging percentage of .966, she is pacing the state in homeruns with 10 and is tied for the conference leading in RBI with 25. Furthermore, she has recorded two multi-homerun games and has launched a homerun in seven games. Defensively, she has hosed seven potential baserunners behind the plate and has a flawless fielding percentage
Andre Wilson
Andre Wilson
Since emerging as a prolific scorer during the 2016-17 season, Wilson has continued to impress in his final campaign for Riverside as a threat on both ends of the floor. Wilson is currently ranked in the top-10 in conference in points-per-game with 16.5 and has started in all 23 contest he has participated. He has earned a 41.1 shooting percentage from the floor that encompasses a 36.5 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. He has landed in double-digit scoring in all but one contest on the year highlighted by three 23-point showings – one coming in a victory over Irvine Valley. He was named to the OEC Second-Team All-Conference list and led his team to a playoff appearance.
Daniel Martinez
Martinez is a rare breed on the diamond. Acting as the ultimate utility player, Martinez acts as the No. 2 Tigers ace on the mound and most potent offensive threat. On the bump, Martinez currently boasts a 4-2 record with a 2.66 ERA and 40 strikeouts. Additionally, he has recorded one save and is averaging 7.42 strikeouts-per-frame. Offensively, he is hitting .284 with 19 hits, 10 RBI, 19 walks, and one round tripper. He was recently named Southern California Pitcher of the Week by the California Community COllege Baseball Coaches Association as well.
