After a season in which the Riverside City College football team finished with a 10-2 mark and reached the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Championship game, the Tigers are already making waves prior to kick off. The Tigers will enter the 2018 campaign ranked eighth in the national preseason rankings per the 2018 College Football Association.
Riverside is the second highest ranked California squad behind the defending State Champion Fullerton College Hornets. They come in ranked second in the nation. No. 9 Mt. San Antonio, No. 11 City College of San Francisco, No. 14 Bakersfield, No. 15 San Mateo, No. 17 Laney, No. 18 Saddleback, and No. 20 Long Beach round out the top-20. Additionally, they are ranked ahead of No. 13 Independence who was featured on this year's Netflix original series "Last Chance U".
The Tigers are less than a month away from hitting their home turf in a scrimmage against the Palomar College Comets on Thursday, August 23rd at 3 p.m. They follow with their season opener on the road against the El Camino College Warriors on Saturday, September 1st. They will return home to host Fullerton on Saturday, September 8th for their home opener.
Head Coach Tom Craft will return at the helm for his ninth season after being named the SCFA Coach of the Year. He looks to haul in his sixth-straight conference title and appear in his ninth-consecutive bowl game.
The SCFA endured a re-conference and a new schedule. Riverside is now a member of the National Southern League comprised of No. 18 Saddleback, Southwestern, Grossmont, Orange Coast, and Golden West.
